Long Island Anesthesiologists (LIA) began serving Long Island not long after the founding and opening of Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, NY in 1959. We are one of the oldest and longest serving groups in the area. Much has changed in medicine and health care since the 1960’s. Good Samaritan Hospital, our primary location, has grown from a 175 bed General Hospital to a 537 bed tertiary care, Level II trauma center and teaching facility serving the diverse populations of central and south Long Island. It provides some of New York’s highest volume emergency services, cardiac surgery services, a busy and active labor and delivery area, ambulatory and major surgery units including robotic surgery capabilities, adult and pediatric endoscopy suites, general and intensive care pediatric and neonatology units, advanced interventional cardiology, electrophysiology and vascular suites, and dedicated surgical and medical intensive care units. LIA Anesthesiologists care for patients in all of these areas.
As Long Island and its hospitals have grown, so have we. Long Island Anesthesiologists now consists of 26 full time Board Certified Anesthesiologists, trained mainly at the nation’s top academic medical centers. Many of our physicians have areas of focus or training in the major Anesthesiology subspecialties such as Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, Neuroanesthesia, Critical Care, Regional Anesthesia for Orthopedics, and Pain Management. Importantly, LIA currently has seven full time Pediatric Anesthesiologists, more than almost all neighboring hospitals. We have continued our diverse practice at Good Samaritan Hospital and developed areas of practice elsewhere in the area appropriate for the demands of the present day health care system. To address patient needs and meet these new demands, we additionally care for patients in physicians offices and surgery centers around New York and Long Island. At all of our locations, patients are cared for to the same exacting standards. Our patients can be assured care by highly qualified physicians with experience and expertise in complex perioperative management, from the preanesthesia assessment, through the delivery of anesthesia, to the alleviation of pain, and when necessary, care for critical illness. In all these areas we are committed to our patients having the best outcomes possible, and the best anesthetic experience available. We value highly the privilege of patient care amidst Long Island’s unique and diverse patient population.
